The Great Meat List
Mar. 12th, 2009 09:11 amI am an omnivore. I enjoy vegetables, but the world of meat, varied as it is, calls to me. I've had meats from many different sources, but know I'm missing out on a treasure trove of potential enjoyment. The mission, if you choose to accept it, is to take my list of meats, remove things you haven't eaten, and add meats that you have enjoyed that I have left off my list. This isn't about how the food was prepared, but instead the base meat itself. What's the weirdest thing you've eaten? Is there anything not on my list that you're surprised I haven't eaten? Are there any on my list that you would avoid? Any on your list you think I would avoid?
Cow
Buffalo
Goat
Deer
Squirrel
Rabbit
Kangaroo
Frog
Chicken
Turkey
Pheasant
Cornish Game Hen
Duck
Ostrich
Lamb
Pig
Swordfish
Haddock
Salmon
Tilapia
Dolphin (Mahi Mahi)
Tuna
Sea Bass
Catfish
Perch
Sunfish
Alaskan Halibut
Trout
Bass
Red Snapper
Grouper
Flounder
Mussel
Clam
Shrimp
Scallop
Prawn
Eel
Squid
Octopus
Lobster
Crayfish
Bering Strait Crab
King Crab
Dungeness Crab
Snow Crab
Blue Crab
Mako Shark
Snail
Alligator
Conch
Oyster
...
I was tempted to just put "fish" for the large fish group (and I'm sure I've left out many), but decided that would sort of be like putting "mammals."
I'll add more as I remember them, or am reminded by other people's lists.
