Jul. 15th, 2010 11:25 amI would like you, my wonderful friends, to tell me what makes you happy. It could be something small and trivial, or something major. Write me a list in comments, be it a tiny list or a huge one.
I'll continue with this entry, and would like you to pass this idea on in your own LJ as I'm doing here.
Things That Make Me Happy:
Thunderstorms
Sunny warm days where the temperature doesn't go above 80 degrees F
Traveling
Well-behaved dogs
Reading a good book
Being surrounded by good friends
Knowing people are there for me when I need them
Trying new things
Learning a new skill, like folding t-shirts
The smell of rain right after the storm
Cooking
Eating food that has been made with care
New adventures

5 Word Meme
Aug. 27th, 2009 01:35 pmSay "Words" in the comments and I'll pick 5 words that remind me of you. Write about these in your journal if you like!
chaosvizier chose the following words for me:
Zombies
I have a plan. I will survive. Will you?
Even if zombies never happen, most of my plans can be adapted for any natural disaster, or even most non-atomic doomsday scenarios. I'm not even really that big of a survival nut; I just like being prepared for the worst.
Swords

I have a large collection of sword-like-objects, and only a few real swords. That being said, I'd use any of them to ward off a person invading my home, but only one of the real ones to fight off zombies.
Photography
I haven't taken a picture with my camera in about a month. I haven't had it with me when good opportunities arose, and haven't seen anything good to shoot when it's been in my possession. I'm going to have to correct this oversight, and take more pictures. In the mean time, here's something I took a picture of a long time ago. It's one of my favorites.

Dogs
Dogs! Send me your photos, people! I need more for next month!
Oh, crap! I need to get next month's dogs ready! I only have 3 days! I don't want The Pooch Page going away like it did before! I guess I really DO need to keep the camera on me at all times, and ask people if I can take pictures of their dogs. I used to do it all the time, but I've fallen out of practice. Time to get back on that horse! Or large dog, I suppose.
Insects
Ooh! Yesterday I pulled a really large scarab beetle of some kind out of my garden. I'm concerned that its larvae are going to eat the roots of my plants, since my gardens always seem to attract pain-in-the-ass-bugs, but my friend who happens to be a bug scientist says they should be fine.
If they die, I'm blaming him.
---
I am feeling loopy today. I'm going to blame a lack of Vitamin D. On that note, it's time to go out and try to mow the lawn again. Yay outside labor!

Say "words!" in the comments and I'll respond with 5 words that I associate with you. Write something about them in your LJ.
jfs gave me the following words:
Dogs
My Monster is laying on the ground on her side, panting hard right now. Her feet are covered in mud (something I will have to fix later, but it's dried on so poses no issue for the carpet), and she's quite obviously exhausted. Running around the back yard for half an hour will do that, especially if you run as hard and joyfully as she does. She truly loves running; you can see it in every bounce.
I love dogs. I talk about them quite a bit, I have a website dedicated to them (which goes live again tomorrow!), foster them, and have two of my own. What can I say? I was a cat person growing up, because we never had a dog; I grew out of that fairly quickly, and I'm glad I did.
Transformation
I've been going through some changes lately, trying to get this overweight, out of shape, and generally mis-managed body to conform to how I think it should be. This is a pretty major change for me, and "transformation" is a good strong word to use because more than just the physical process of getting in shape, I've had to change my entire mind-set. I have changed what I eat, changed my daily routine, and somehow found the willpower to keep going. Something in my brain clicked over; pushed me over the edge of looking at getting in shape, and actually finally made me start doing something about it.
Zombies
I'm worried that they're going to come before I'm ready. I preach readiness, and try my best to have everything I know I should have, but things like firearms are foreign to me. I don't mean that I don't know how to use one; I do, but I haven't the foggiest idea what to purchase, or where the best place would be. Thinking about keeping it loaded near my bed for "home protection" and zombie protection warps my brain.
But yes. Zombies are America's number 1 threat!
What? No?
America
Pop Star Scandals! Chewing Gum Philosphy! Inappropriate Capital Letters! Media Blitz! Free Media! Expensive Media! Lead In The Air Is Poisoning Our Children And Making Them Dumber!
Wait, that last one's kind of serious. Wow, that's not surprising, but it does suck.
What was the prompt again?
Arabic
أهلن وسهلن!
That's "Good morning" or a formal "Hello" in Arabic. It's only taken me two semesters to learn how to say it, spell it, and type it. Even now I'm not sure it's 100% correct.
I've found that with Arabic, as with every language I've taken,** I understand a lot more than I can actually speak. Body language, intonation, and a number of other factors help my brain grasp what a person is saying to me as long as I can get half of what they're saying, but the second I have to respond, my brain freezes. It locks in on trying to say something I actually don't yet know how to say, and won't let me work around the mental block. It's strange.
I get frustrated easily with any new language. I'm starting my third class in Arabic next semester, and I can already feel the jitters coming on. Am I going to be good enough? Will I make a fool of myself? What if I've forgotten everything I already knew during the Summer? Should I...What if...Can it be that....بكم؟
I just worry. I should do fine, and hopefully my transformation will help me want to do my homework too (that's my biggest detractor and has been my whole life), but the worry is still there, behind the confidence I show.
I'll be fine, but I'll still worry about it.
*People still say this, right? I think it's cute.***
**Spanish for a year, and French for 4 or 5 years. I can't speak either fluently, but I can tell you that the monkey is in the tree in either one.
***It has been brought to my attention that this * does not actually have anything attached to it in the body of this writing. I must have deleted it and forgotten to delete the footnote. I am preserving it for posterity, however.

Spunky Funk
Feb. 13th, 2009 08:42 amI'm in a good mood but my body's kind of "blah." I've got a smile on my face, underneath this tired look I'm currently sporting. My brain is kind of muddled, so forgive me if I don't have a lot to say today, or it's not as witty as I might believe. I think I might be tired after a night of very active dreams, both good and bad.
So let's try something fun. A while ago somebody asked me to do the "25 Things About You" meme, and I couldn't think of 25 fascinating things to write about myself. So:
Ask me a question! When I get to 25 questions I'll answer them in the style of that meme.

Well, well, well.
May. 7th, 2008 01:04 pmI don't normally do these, but
taoangel put me on her "tagged" list, and she's said nice things about my photos, so I guess it's only fair that I give this meme a shot, eh?
