I marvel at your childhood ingenuity just as much as I goggle at the thought of taking a cold shower. I used to do this thing where I shocked my body with the hot water when I got in, and for the last minute or so I shocked it with extremely cold water - then I realized that I hated it, and stopped.
Also? I take quicker showers than almost anyone I know when I'm not purposely taking a long hot soak. Maria always marvels at how fast I'm finished with my shower. *shrugs*
