We're leaving soon, dropping off Monster and MaiTai at The Doggie Playhouse and driving 6 hours to visit my family with Pooh Bear in tow. A vacation from which we may well need a vacation, but it should be a good time.

I'll be around, sporadically, but if there's something over the next week or so that you'd like me to see, the best thing to do will be to email me: jeremiah@larpusa.com.

I hope you have a merry Xmas, and that the New Year treats you well.

Returned home safely late last night after a bumpy ride on the plane. Safe and sound after a long and exhausting vacation. Some things went exactly as expected, and other things surprised everyone. Got to see family; my brother is now married and I have a sister-in-law. How crazy is that?

Tomorrow I begin again with work, but today is still vacation. I plan on sitting around, eating meals prepared by other people, and not worrying about monetary issues. Vacation for one more day, needed after my vacation. Isn't that the way it always happens?

What have I missed while I've been gone? Feel free to sum it up in a long comment or two, or just link me to your direct post. I'd really like to know what's been going on.

Well, I'm on vacation starting bright and early as I rise from bed at 4 AM tomorrow. This means I'll be going to bed in about 20 minutes so that I can have at least some shut-eye tonight. My parents get even less, having to be at the airport by 4 AM. Crazy.

I've got important phone numbers with me, my camera and 5 Gigs worth of memory cards. I'm all packed and ready to go. My ID is already in the shorts I'm wearing on the plane, and I think everything's set.

My sister is even already in Florida, despite my worries!

So, what's going to go wrong?

Heh.

Yeah, I'm borrowing trouble, because it's what I do.

I'll tell you all about it when I get home in a week or so!

Oh, Yeah!

Did I mention I'm leaving for Florida tomorrow, to go to Disney?

Disney's not the reason for going down there, but a nice side-effect. My brother, whom I haven't seen in a few years, is getting married, so that made for a nice excuse to get down there again and enjoy Disney. My parents, sister, brother and soon-to-be-sister-in-law will be there with us, and it should be a great time!

I'm really looking forward to this long vacation. This will be my second time to Disney, and third time in Florida. A friend from that area might be able to make it out to lunch one day, which would just make the trip that much more cool, but even without that, it's Disney! Whoo!

Of course, I'm still debating whether or not I think my sister will wake up in time for her flight, find where she's going once she gets to the Washington DC airport, and get to Florida. As I told my wife the other day, "there's nothing I can do about it, so I shouldn't worry, but all I can picture is Anna (my sister) wandering downtown Washington DC, trying to figure out how, exactly, she left the airport."

See, Anna's never actually gotten on a plane as an adult. Sure, as a kid she was flown from Korea to Syracuse, NY, but that barely counts. She's slightly scatter-brained, and I find it hard to imagine this going off without a hitch.

Still, there's nothing I can do about it, so I shouldn't worry.

Yeah, that works, right?

The pessimist lifestyle: Worry about everything going wrong so that if it ever goes perfectly you'll be pleasantly surprised, but when something does go wrong you'll be ready.

Hey, Florida people!

I'm doing a little bit of vacation planning that's a little out of the ordinary, and I'm wondering if you can help me out of this pickle?

[livejournal.com profile] reverendfixxxer says I have no chance, if the worst happens, but I think there has to be some way to make sure I'm safe. I'll have my wife, my parents, my sister*, my brother Andrew, and all of his soon-to-be-wife's family to think of.

So please go there and let me know if this is something you've thought about, something you can help me figure out. Thanks!

*Assuming she makes it out of the DC airport with no mistakes, but that's a story for a different time.

For those that were curious, we really did go to the Washington DC zoo on Friday, Maria, myself, and Earl. It was a great time! As promised, I have brought back photos.

This first one, while not an animal, was just perfect timing.

Going out to the Washington D.C. Zoo with Maria and a friend who came up to visit. I've never been to Washington D.C., let alone their zoo, so I'm really excited. This is another trip in our series of once-a-month day trips to get out and have some fun; the fact that a friend of ours is visiting from out of state just makes it that much cooler.

I'm looking forward to seeing lots of animals, taking lots of pictures, and sharing them both here and at my picture blog. I'm really looking forward to a nice day of relaxation and fun.

Hi!

I was gone over the weekend. The high points:

  • Maria's birthday was Sunday! Send her good wishes!

  • My sister Cora's graduation party was nice, and I'm very proud of her!

  • My father and I don't see eye to eye, but unlike how it would have been years ago, we still parted happy to have seen each other for the weekend.

  • I saw my birthday present, which will someday be a nice apron for me.

  • The dogs went to puppy daycare, and were, in the words of their primary watcher, "absolutely fantastic!"

  • Despite some minor incidents (my father's side of the family definitely doesn't like my purple hair), things were nice, and it was great to be able to be there for my sister. Five and a half hours is a long drive, but it's not so bad when you're going somewhere to have a good time.

Still, as is always the case, the ride home seemed much faster than the ride there. Could be because we were heading home in daylight hours rather than evening, but there's always something nice about getting back home after a weekend away.

I went to the Aquarium, and what did I see?

Lots of little fishies, looking at me!

    And frogs. Lots of frogs.

Unfortunately, it's very difficult to get a good picture through the distorting power of glass and water, with poor lighting, but I did my best, filled the Gig of space I had, and pared down the pictures I took to about 100 nice ones to share.

Most of my favorites are of frogs, because I didn't have to contend with the water, but a few others came out really well.

Tomorrow is our first day trip out of the State of Delaware. It is widely said that Delaware is the state to live in when you want to have to go somewhere else to find something to do, and while I believed it before moving here, I really believe it now.

So, bright and early tomorrow, we'll be dropping the dogs off at daycare, grabbing a quick coffee and breakfast sandwich, and driving out to Baltimore, MD, to visit the Aquarium! I'm wicked excited.

Yes, I'm so excited that I just reverted into my 5-year-old self and said "wicked."

First, I've never been to Maryland, so it'll be another state visited, which is cool. Second, I've never been to an aquarium of this size, so that's really neat too. Thirdly, we're going to an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet for lunch.

What? I'm a food guy, and food being good helps me rate something as a good time. All-you-can-eat seafood is just about heaven for me.

Anyone in the Baltimore area that can give some local things to see or avoid? Anyone in that area that wants to meet us for lunch? Email me before 8 AM tomorrow, or you'll miss me!

Now I just have to figure out where our day trip is going to be next month. Maria planned this one for this month, and since we're trying to do one a month, I get to plan the next one. I'll figure something out, I'm sure!
