1. How will you be ringing in the New Year?
~Probably sitting here, relaxing with Maria, watching a movie from Netflix. It'll be nice and relaxing. Though we were invited to a party ... guess we'll see.

2. How do you wish you were ringing in the New Year?
~I know so many people that will hate this answer, but who cares - I wish I was ringing in the New Year from Disney, down in Florida, enjoying Siberian Strait Crab Claws, which are about as big around as my fist. And then Mickey would come to the party right before midnight. :)

3. Do you have any traditions that you observe on New Year's Day intended to bring you luck for the upcoming year?
~Nah. I'm a pretty traditionless guy in that aspect. Maybe I should make one up. Okay, here's a good one! At the beginning of every new year, I make sure to give at least one pigeon a dutch rub for good luck in the following year. Yeah, that's it!

4. Do you make resolutions? Do you keep them?
~I make at least one resolution every year, and it's usually to lose weight. So far I've kind of gone the other way on that, but this year I think it's going to change, considering the new gym membership and everything.

5. Would you ever have plastic surgery?
~Sure, if I were in a disfiguring accident, or something. Nothing wrong with plastic surgery. Some people just go too far, is all.

Okay, I've seen a lot about New Year's resolutions, and even this Friday Five asked about them. As such, I'm going to make a few resolutions for the new year. This way, I can look back at the end of the year and see where I am and how well I've done. My format is blatantly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] zoethe, mostly because it's a good format, but slightly because I'm too lazy and tired to be creative right now.

Health

Begin an exersize program - Stick to it this time, and adjust it with time so that it continues to be a challenge, pushing me further and further towards my fitness goals.

Eat better - It helps that for Christmas I got a slow cooker and a huge recipe book, this way there's a lot more eating at home and less eating at a restaurant, which is almost by default healthier. Not always, but compared to where I would normally go, it is.

See a doctor - I haven't been to a doctor in probably five years, and it's about time I get a check up. Hopefully I'll be able to do this with medical insurance from a new job, but we'll see.

Social

Cultivate new friendships - It's almost always good to expand your social circle, and we've been meaning to work on this. Anyone have ideas how to do this? I'm slightly disfunctional when it comes to making grown-up friends. It's just not like on the playground where you walk up to the other kid eating sand and ask "Wanna be friends?"

Try new things - Restaurants, entertainment, plays, movies, places we normally wouldn't go.

Living

Cook at home more nights than eating elsewhere - This will help with health, money, and satisfaction. It always makes me feel good when I cook a meal that goes over really well, and since I do most of the cooking hopefully this feeling will occur more often.

Update the house - We are considering selling the house next winter, and by then I'd like to have all the updates that I can personally do (painting, minor repairs, etc) done.

Habits - There are habits that I have, like biting my nails for example, that I would like to change. Get rid of. Do away with. I've been fighting these habits for quite some time, honestly, and it's difficult, but this is the year!

Financial

Find a job - I need something I'll stick with, something that I might not enjoy, but can at least handle without feeling like every day is worse than the last one. If I can do this, I can have money to spend. An amazing concept.

Sell more swords - This is a financial thing, as well as a personal pride/satisfaction thing. The more swords I make, the better I get at it, the better I get at it, the more likely they are to sell, the more I sell, the better I feel about making them. And so on.

Recreational

Find something for me and Maria - Besides D&D and board games, I want to find something that both Maria and I can go do together. I want it to be something that we'll both greatly enjoy doing together, and it can be "our thing." Dorky? Sure. Fun? Yup.

I only have a year. Time to get crackin'!

Sounds like an excellent set of goals. I wish you the very best at those, and let me know when you get that package. ;)

Thank you for the good thoughts. It's appreciated.

Should I be expecting the package today, or tomorrow?

In theory it'll be tommorow, but with those crazy UPS guys, who knows? I just hope it doesn't thaw out. Then it won't be nearly as cool a gift. *keeps fingers crossed*

I'll keep an eye out, but I'm going to be away from the house for about an hour or so. Knowing the way my luck is, that will be the hour it gets delivered, five minutes after I leave. :)

Thankfully it's pretty cold out here. I'll keep hoping it stays cold so whatever this is doesn't thaw.

"Then it won't be nearly as cool a gift."

Heh. That's because it'll be warm.

"Find something for me and Maria - Besides D&D and board games, I want to find something that both Maria and I can go do together."

Have you considered making a list of things you enjoy doing, and simply circling that which you know (think) Maria would also enjoy?

Or you could simply ask her for a similar list...Or wing it. Square Dancing lessons? SURE, could be fun!...

Or not.

In high-school, one or two days a year (or semester, or something like that) in gym class, we had Square Dancing. The fact that it was only a day made it fun (and funny).

I square danced with Becky in 12 grade, hehe... Swing your partner, do si do!

I've always been thankful that my school didn't teach Square Dancing, and didn't have a pool. I just imagine the changing room, but with the horror of swim shorts. No thank you.

I think I'm going to wing it! "Hey hon, get your climbing gear, we're going spelunking!" Or even better, "Hey sweety, time for us to learn swing dancing!"

Maybe not.
