Many people expressed concern with my puppy when I mentioned he was getting surgery for a small lump of cancer found on the right side of his neck. He much appreciated the love and support that was shown to him, though he didn't quite understand who you all were.

Well, my big Shar Pei/Bull Mastiff mix named WonTon is doing better, and the stitches come out on the tenth. Unless, of course, he pulls them out before then. *sigh* Oh, he's healing up just fine, but the suitures didn't seem to bother him until just recently. He's begun scratching when we're not looking, and he's already succeeded at pulling loose one of the stitches. Thankfully he didn't do much beyond that, I think he's healed pretty well to the point where it's just a deep scab, not a potentially mortal risk.

So, he's doing okay and even seems a little more loving than before. Don't get me wrong, he's still a cranky old man, but he's a lonely cranky old man that just needs some attention and love. Big dork. Heh.

On to other things.

My work schedule's been hectic this week. Well, hectic isn't a good word, but it's been strange. Hours shifting around so that I get work every day, but never quite a full day, sometimes missing it by a half hour, and most days missing by four. Today I'm going in for five and a half hours, though I may be asked to stay late, which would be nice. It's not that we're desperate for money, because we're not, but we have this strange thing from the Vet's office called a "bill" for the surgery. Has anyone else heard of this new practice? They call it "charging for services rendered." Weird, huh? Either way, money is a good thing, which means working over 20 hours in the week will be really nice.

Speaking of money. (My mind is wandering EVERYWHERE today, I think that something I did in a dream must be affecting my real life. Heh.) I still have some ideas about businesses I want to run and things I want to do with my life, and my mind seems stuck on one or two things. The thing is, I think I've found the perfect place for two or three of these ideas - 74,000 square feet of an abandoned elementary school! This would be amazing for what I have planned.

So here's the question:

I continually hear that entrepreneurs very often start their businesses with a Grant, and that Grants are not actually too difficult to come by, if you have the willingness to find them and work a bit for them. Grants, as I understand them, are money given but not expected back. Grants, as I understand them, are supposed to be a god-send for the budding business-man.

Does anyone out there have a good source to look at when trying to find Grants? I worry that one I may find on my own will be a scam of some kind. I'm looking for advice, experience, anything you think might help. Anything?

I will have my own business again, and I will enjoy doing what I do.

Either that or I'll win the lottery. Then, well, I'm not sure what I'd do. Probably still run a business, because it's what I want to do. I'd be one of those "working rich," or something.

Email me. I don't have time to go into it right now but I deal with grants all the time with work. I know several places to look, and would be happy to look over anything you write up. I'm fairly good with them actually.

The really hard part with grants is that there is some type of reporting that must be done in order to satiate the place giving you the grant. That's what I've always found bothersome. Plus, depending on the grant you can't spend more than a certain percentage on 'Administrative Fees' which is usually 8-10%. Again, depending on the grant that may not be worth a grant writer/manager's time to oversee said grant.

But yeah, you want to know about grants, I'm your man. I may not be able to respond until this weekend or so, seeing as my life is chaotic as all get out right now. But I will respond. :D
