Panic

Hey everyone, I was going to respond to your fantatically thought-out responses to yesterdays post, but real life intrudes.

I have about an inch and a half of water in the basement with more pouring in as we speak. I've rigged up an "osmosis drainage system" so that most of the incoming will leak into the sink, but that'll only work so long. Have to go fight a real life adventure and take care of my stuff. I'll talk more as I can. It's nasty and slippery down there, AND it's still raining.

UPDATE: The rain is slacking off and the weird contraption I have set up to siphon off the incoming water into the washbasin is actually working! Go osmosis! and "Whoo!" 8th grade science class! It's a mess, but it's better. Now that it's better, I get to work. I'm grateful that I have a boss who understands that when I say "I have an emergency and need you to find backup for me today" she actually finds me backup. Sure, I'm getting a little stressed over my job these days, but they treat me pretty well when I need them to.

Dude
That sucks.
Hope the bandsaw is OK :)

Those kinds of real life adventures suck! Tell your sump-pump to get back to work!

Got the bandsaw out just in time. As soon as I moved it there was a surge towards it. This just reinforces my belief that I could REALLY use a worktable, but you know, after we repair the basement for flood damage.

Going to go drape a tarp over the area where the water is coming in, and bail out a HUGE amount of water from the basement. This is going to be a fun adventure, fighting all those nyads and other water creatures! I wonder if I'll get to see a Dragon Turtle...

Like I was telling [livejournal.com profile] acm_68 below but in a much different way, it seems as though the nyads have joined forces with earth elementals, and they were using some kind of combo attack where the nyads try to drown me while the earth elementals attempt to suck me in to their clutches. It got hairy out there for a while, but with my trusty +2 Fence of Stability, I was able to pull myself free and do the job I needed to do - unroll tarps to cover the huge hole in our backyard where the water is getting in.

Just wish the patio company that's doing out thing had thought about the fact that having a huge hole in the yard can cause drainage issues...

The life vest would have come in handy when I was outside trying to shield the affected area with tarps (I know EXACTLY what's causing this) and was actually sinking into the ground as though it were quicksand. I was grateful to have a fence next to me to help keep me only slightly more than ankle-deep in cloying mud. Yay mud. Bah.

You know, for the life of me I'm still trying to figure out why I thought flip-flops would be a good idea...

Because the 4 inch stilettos are too hard to clean?

Thanks. Things are getting better now. Still, panic mode, you know?

This is going to sound AMAZINGLY weird, but for some reason, my current situation made me really empathize with your water problem.

I think...well, it is the same if you go all flowery and metaphorical. It just keeps coming and keeps coming...and all you can do is try to be creative and keep it from getting worse.

Wow....I think that the Benadryl if affecting me cognitively. What do you think????

That's a pretty cool way to think about it in a kind of "you're high" way. ;) But yeah, the pressure just keeps forcing everything in, and you do your best to keep everything at a level, even if you can't get it back to where it was.

Thankfully the rain has stopped here, and we were able to level things off before starting clean up. Don't worry Kimma, you'll get there with this allergy thing, the rain will stop, and you'll get back to a better place.
