I think we've decided that it would be cheaper and easier to just make the house we're living in now to be the house we want than to find "the perfect house" to move to. This is going to take some money, time, and effort, but we've already put a lot of sweat into this house (and gotten others to do the same for us), what's a little more?

All it needs, to be the house that I want is:

A fireplace
A more useable kitchen
A "game room"
-with things to go in the game room

So, I figure, what? $1000, right? Including labor, maybe $2000?

A guy could hope anyways. Today we go to find out what we would need to spend to start on the road that we want to go with this house. I'm excited most about the fireplace, actually. I had one in an apartment once - an electric fireplace - and it was one of the nicest (was going to say 'coolest' but, well, it's a fireplace) features I've ever had. Just something about curling up in front of the fire with a good book. It does something for me.

As far as my game room goes, does anyone know where I can buy the sit-down version of the arcade Star Wars Trilogy, where you pilot X-Wings and fight Darth Vader? I used to be able to get high score and beat the game on one life. Don't ask how long it took me to get that good, or how much money. Trust me, I don't want to think about that part. I just love that game. Actually, does anyone know companies that sell full arcade-style games? I'm interested in doing a mini-arcade for myself some day, full with having to put quarters in the machine and everything. It'll be how I save money! Good idea, right?

Seriously, much luck on turning the house you're in into a dream home.

Thank you!

The second link has exactly what I'm looking for, but the cost is such that I could buy that, or completely redo my kitchen and still have money left over.

Decisions, decisions...

Too bad I didn't live around there I'd offer up my construction skills. It's sad really that I enjoy helping others do construction stuff than work on my own. But I think that's a fault of everyone's, don't you?

Another place you can check for full-size arcade games are on Ebay. Last I checked a good one with multiple games to choose from (think Neo-Geo...dear god I just dated myself) cost around $2,500 and up.

Also if you get a fireplace get a natural gas one. Much less spendy than an electric one. And for the love of god don't get a real fire place. Those things are a fire death trap waiting to happen.

I'm a pinball girl myself, and tend toward the Mr. pinball listings - there might be a web site for arcade - I know there are a lot of vendors around the colleges down here, I assume they congregate around college life up there as well. Some just rent them to you in case you think you'd want to swap out - my pin was $250 and over 7 years I've put maybe $150 in upkeep into it.

Honestly, and I don't mean to burst your bubble, but $2,000 is waaaay low. A ventless gas fireplace might not cost too much, but is definitely not something you should do on your own. And a wood fireplace? Fuhgeddaboudit! Not sure what would make a useable kitchen, since that's a fairly vague description. Same goes with a game room.

As for where you'd get the sit-down game...I recommend trying Google. When we were entertaining the thought of buying Galaga, I did a google on coin-op games in our area and found a few hits. Games that old, though, might require e-Bay.

*chuckles* Sorry, I realize after reading that that the sarcasm doesn't come through in writing. It just kind of falls flat and makes me look like a hopeless wisher. Don't worry, I realize what a big undertaking most of these things will be.

Here's hoping it all goes well and I don't burn my house down in the mean time. :)
