I just saw a few old pictures of me from roughly five years ago, and I'm stunned, surprised, dissapointed, and a whole host of other emotions that I haven't yet sorted through.

In the pictures, I'm sword fighting with my old friend Shawn J. using wooden katana swords called bokken. Sure, I look stupid, and hold my hand in a very non-sword-combat way when I'm swinging with the other hand, but that's not the part that my eyes instantly focus on.

I was skinny.

Oh, sure, I wasn't perfectly in shape or anything, and I definately could have still lost a few pounds here and there, but wow, the difference a few years makes.

I need to at least get back to where I was then. This has snuck up on me, and I hadn't realized how much I really had changed and grown. The fat on me now almost disgusts me when I see these old pictures.

Time for a change in my life.

Right after this slice of pizza.

While reading a post by [livejournal.com profile] theferrett about how the fact that he doesn't use chat software, even though he's otherwise extremely tech-savvy, made me think about a few interesting facts in my life that most of my friends here won't know.

I thought I'd share them:

1) Like Ferrett, I do not chat. I got rid of all my chat programs long ago, and find livejournal and email to more than suffice. In fact, I enjoy livejournal much more than I used to enjoy chatting.

2) I do not watch television. I don't even have cable, and my TV can't pull in a signal of any kind. Don't get me wrong, I watch shows when they come out on DVD, and I rent movies (or get them for free from libraries and friends, the wonderful people that they are), but I do not sit down and flip through the channels. I truly believe this has enhanced my life in both productivity and value of time.

3) I still only have the vaguest idea of PC terminology. I still say things like "I want it to go fast," or "I just want to be able to play games with good graphix," or, "Is 10 Gigs a lot?" Okay, I'm not quite that bad off...but I'm way behind the times.

4) I have a rather extensive sword and knife collection. Okay, maybe "extensive" isn't quite the right word, but I own more swords and knives than anyone I know. They're pretty. The swords and knives, not the people I know. Well, some of the people I know are pretty, but that's not wh...you know what, forget the last three sentances.

5) I have easily over 300 science-fiction/fantasy (why can't they each have their own catagory?) books. They are nicely catagorized by author in my den on the built in book shelves. I've read almost all of them at least twice.

There. Five things you might not have known about me. Some much more shocking than others.

MEME!

I'm bored, and for some reason this seems at least half-way interesting to fill out. You don't have to read it, I'm just filling it out to see what my own answers are.
